Eight more infants have been hospitalized amid anongoing outbreakof infant botulism in baby formula, where babies as young as 16 days have been sickened.

The recall of ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula was first announced by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in a Nov. 8news release, which stated that two batches of the formula were being recalled after being linked to several cases of infant botulism.

The recall was expanded to include all ByHeart formula products, theFDAannounced on Nov. 20, saying, "Epidemiologic and laboratory data show that ByHeart Whole Nutrition infant formula might be contaminated withClostridium botulinum, [the bacteria that causes botulism] which is causing infant illness in multiple regions of the country."

A total of 31 babies have been hospitalized, theU.S. Centers for Disease Controlsaid in a Nov. 21 update on the outbreak, and per available data from the FDA, the sickened babies are under a year old and as young as 16 days.

The CDC noted that symptoms to watch for are, at first, constipation, but can progress to "difficulty feeding (sucking and swallowing), a weak and altered cry, and lack of head control."

If left untreated, the CDC says babies can develop a "progressive, flaccid paralysis" which can cause breathing problems, and require "weeks of hospitalization."

In a statement on its website,ByHeartsays, "we are working to investigate the facts, conduct ongoing testing to identify the source, and ensure this does not happen to families again. We continue to urge parents and caregivers to stop using ByHeart formula immediately, monitor your child for symptoms of infant botulism, and seek medical care immediately if they develop symptoms."

The company said they are working with the FDA and "investigating every facet of our process – from ingredient-sourcing to our manufacturing process and facilities, packaging, transportation, everything."

ByHeart's statement continued: "We do not yet know the root cause, but we are committed to finding the answers. We are doing everything we can to ensure this investigation reveals solutions and aids in understanding cases of infant botulism broadly. That's what parents, the medical community, and you deserve."

The outbreak spans 15 states, the FDA says, including Arizona, California, Idaho, Illinois, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas and Washington.

Texas has seen the most cases, per the agency.

Kentucky mom Hanna Everett, whose four-month-old daughter Piper was hospitalized withbotulismafter drinking the formula,told PEOPLE, "She went through so much at such a young age and all we can hope is that it doesn't follow her through life."

"We hope she is too young to remember this. Unfortunately, we aren't as lucky, [as we] are pretty traumatized from it all," Everett said, adding, "She is going to need speech and feeding therapy, so [we] are hoping that goes well and helps her. Other than struggling with her bottles and being exhausted, she's mainly back to her normal, happy self, thank God."

Nigeria school attacks: 215 students kidnapped from Catholic school amid outrage over violence against Christians

Police in Nigeria's north-central Niger State reported that a group of armed bandits invaded a private Catholic school abducting hundreds of schoolchildren early on Friday, amid widespread outrage over violence against Christians in the West African nation.

Despite some students managing to get to safety during the attack, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) said 215 students and 12 teachers were abducted in the raid.

Parents have been arriving at the school to pick their children up, ahead of the school shutting down, CAN's Niger State chapter chairman Most. Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna said.

Yohanna, who visited the school and met parents of the abducted children, said the association was working with the government and security agencies to bring the children back safely, according to his spokesman.

The abduction in Niger, which borders Nigeria's capital, Abuja, follows a similarattack on a churchby gunmen in neighboring Kwara State earlier in the week. During the church attack, at least two people were killed, and several worshippers, including the pastor, were abducted.

In addition, this week, armed menkidnapped 25 female studentswhen they stormed a government girls' boarding school in northwestern Kebbi State. Tragically, the school's vice principal was shot and killed during this attack.

The Niger State governmentcondemnedthe latest attack on St. Mary's School, stating that "the exact number of abducted pupils is yet to be confirmed."

The Niger State police command issued a statement Friday indicating that security forces have deployed to the area and are "combing the forests" in an effort to rescue the abducted students.

Nigeria is currently facing a concerning wave of attacks by armed groups that target vulnerable civilian populations and orchestrate mass abductions for ransom. The country is also plagued by religiously motivated attacks and other violent conflicts stemming from communal and ethnic tensions, as well as disputes between farmers and herders over limited access to land and water resources.

US President Donald Trump has frequently expressed outrage over disputed allegations of a"mass slaughter" of Christiansby Islamist insurgents in Nigeria and has threatened military action to protect this religious group.

Earlier this month, Trump designated Nigeria as a "Country of Particular Concern" under the USInternational Religious Freedom Act, suggesting that his administration has determined Nigeria has engaged in or tolerated "systematic, ongoing, (and) egregious violations of religious freedom."

The recent string of attacks coincides with the arrival of a Nigerian delegation in Washington for discussions with US government officials.

A Pentagon official confirmed a meeting that took place on Thursday between Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Nigeria's National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu. Additionally, the Nigerian delegation is scheduled to meet Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau on Friday, according to a State Department spokesperson.

NEW YORK (Reuters) -A federal judge on Friday temporarily blocked President Donald Trump's administration ​from unilaterally imposing new conditions on over $350 million in ‌U.S. Department of Homeland Security grants to more than two dozen cities and ‌counties in California, Washington and Arizona.

U.S. District Judge William Orrick in San Francisco ruled the Trump administration likely violated the law when it issued executive orders that sought to cut off DHS funding to local ⁠governments unless they supported ‌federal immigration enforcement, ended programs that support diversity, stopped providing benefits to immigrants who are in the country ‍illegally, and complied with the president's other executive orders.

The plaintiffs, which include San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego, sued the Trump ​administration on September 30, saying the federal government was playing ‌politics with DHS and Federal Emergency Management Agency grants that local governments use to prepare for and recover from disasters.

The cities and counties in the lawsuit represent 30 million people, and they said collectively they have over $350 million in grants at stake. Local governments use the ⁠federal grants to hire first responders, ​fund search and rescue operations, train ​employees in disaster response, and prepare for events like Super Bowl LX and the 2026 FIFA World Cup, ‍according to Santa ⁠Clara County in California, the lead plaintiff in the lawsuit.

The federal government has also threatened to criminally prosecute or claw back ⁠funds from localities that accept DHS money but do not comply with the new executive ‌orders, according to the lawsuit.

The actor-director, 38, was honored at the 39th American Cinematheque Awards ceremony held at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles on Thursday, Nov. 20.

Sinnersdirector Ryan Coogler, a frequent collaborator of Jordan's, honored Jordan at the event, as did hisCreedcostar Tessa Thompson, hisFruitvale Stationonscreen mom Octavia Spencer, friend Bradley Cooper, Phylicia Rashad, Daniel Kaluuya and more. Tom Cruise and Angela Bassett also shared video messages celebrating Jordan.

During the night,Ben Afflecktook to the podium, praising his friendship with Jordan as a highlight of his Hollywood career.

"It is a genuine honor and a personal joy to be here tonight to help celebrate an actor, director, a human being who I've been a fan and a friend of for a long time now, in a very worthy 2025 award ceremony," said Affleck, 53.

Affleck said when he saw Jordan's true-story dramaFruitvale Stationback in 2013, he was "blown away by that incredible performance, and I rank it as a life-changing movie I will never forget seeing."

"I immediately thought, 'My God, this guy is a huge movie star,' and I couldn't shake it," recalled Affleck. "I remember thinking and remembering that when I broke into the business, if I hadn't had a friend who I trust, who I could talk to and could kind of relate to, to how crazy the world seemed overnight, I honestly don't know what I would've done."

"So," he continued, "I took a shot, and I reached out to Michael."

Affleck said he told Jordan back then that he's "got a giant career ahead of him" and "I would be honored if he would want to sit down and talk to me sometime."

Affleck said he was excited to gain a "front-row seat to a young man with enormous talent," saying of Jordan, "I got to watch him navigate this world with grace and aplomb, and it's been one of the great joys of my career."

Affleck commended Jordan for his "profound goodness" and "amazing work ethic," plus his "fundamental decency, and his warm stride to do whatever it takes to accomplish his goals is all his."

"It has been a tremendous pleasure," said Affleck, "and honor to watch Michael's success story unfold, share some of his journey as he's become not just one of our best and most exciting actors, but also as he's established himself as an extraordinary director, producer, powerhouse on the screen."

Concluding his speech, Affleck told Jordan, "Your friendship has meant an enormous amount to me, probably more than you know, and it has been truly one of the great, great, wonderful gifts that this opportunity here has given me. Driver says eagle dropped cat through car's windshield on highway

A driver in North Carolina told emergency responders that a bald eagle dropped a cat that crashed through her windshield, police said.

The incident happened around 8:15 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. Route 74 in Swain County, North Carolina Highway Patrol said. The driver was not injured.

Highway patrol did not provide additional information.

A photo shared by officials showed the car's broken windshield with a massive hole.

In a 911 call, obtained by CBS News, the driver told the dispatcher that the cat probably did not survive.

"OK, you may not believe me, but I just had a bald eagle drop a cat through my windshield," the 911 call said, according to WLOS. "It absolutely shattered my windshield."

The driver told the dispatcher that another person also saw the cat drop, remarking, "He's like, 'That is the craziest thing I've ever seen.' I'm like, 'Really?'"

The dispatcher offered some assurance, saying, "Oh my goodness. Let's see. I've heard crazier."

"Well, that's terrifying," the caller said, to which the dispatcher replied with, "Yeah."

Bald eagles are predatory birds that can stand up to 3 feet tall and have a wingspan stretching more than 8 feet. They weigh between 8 to 14 pounds and can typically carry things between 3 to 5 pounds. Bald eagles are native to North Carolina and most of North America.

Domestic cats are about 2 feet long and weigh between 5 to 20 pounds. While bald eagles can carry smaller cats, they are not a common prey for the bird.

In 2019, a large catfish crashed through a woman's windshield in North Carolina afterreportedly getting droppedby a flying bird.

Kendrick Weeks, Western Wildlife Diversity Program supervisor for the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, told the Associated Press the cat dropped on the car could have been roadkill scavenged by the eagle.

"But they can take animals the size of a cat," he said. "It is much harder for them to take a live cat than a dead cat. They usually don't prey on something they don't find palatable. And, scavenging is a common behavior in bald eagles."
