THE RUNDOWN

  • Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau went on a date in Montreal in July.

  • Trudeau remained in touch with Perry after their date, and their romance really took off in the fall.

  • In March 2026, the singer shared candid new photos of them together.

In late July 2025, pop star Katy Perry and former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeaufirst sparked dating rumorsafter being seen with one another in Montreal. While Perry was on tour, the pair stayed in touch, and a romance blossomed over the second half of the year.

In late October, a Canadian source toldPeoplethat the pair was officially dating and "already fairly serious." Two months later, Perry went Instagram official with Trudeau.

Here's the complete relationship timeline of Perry and Trudeau so far.

July 2025

July 28

On July 28, the pair enjoyed a long day of activities together, starting with a walk in Montreal's Mount Royal Park. TMZobtained photosof Trudeau smiling alongside Perry as they strolled. They were then filmed eating at Le Violon. In footageobtainedby TMZ, Perry and Trudeau can be seen chatting, with the singer looking attentively at Trudeau.

After their meal, theyhad drinkson the terrace of Taverne Atlantic.

Shortly after TMZ published the dinner video, the outlet ranan interviewwith Le Violon's co-owner and co-executive chef, Danny Smiles, who served them. Smiles said Perry and Trudeau didn't show any PDA, and "he didn't get any dating vibes from Katy and Justin...just two friends enjoying a meal."

Perry and Trudeau enjoyed a series of courses from the chef's tasting menu, including lobster, tuna, lamb gnocchi, and beef tartare, according to TMZ. The meal was a few hours long, and Trudeau covered the bill. Smiles called them the "perfect guests—super chill, extremely nice to the staff."

July 30

On July 30, Trudeau was seen at Perry's Lifetimes Tour stop in Montreal. The former Canadian prime minister was spotted by fans in the crowd. His daughter, Ella-Grace, was also at the concert, perDaily Mail.

Trudeau also sang along to Perry's hit song "Firework."

August 2

A source speaking withPeoplesaid that the pair definitely has a connection, but it is a logistical challenge to date.

"They are interested in each other, but it will take a while to see where this goes," the insider stated. "She is traveling around the world, and he is figuring out his life now that he is no longer prime minister of Canada, but there is an attraction. They have a lot in common."

The source added, "Music is one of many things they can share. Both are idealists and still live in a world where they think they can make improvements, although it has gotten more difficult."

They both have full lives already, as well as kids they share with former partners.

"Their own personal responsibilities could make this relationship move slower than it would, but there are ways to see the other and still fulfill their parenting responsibilities," the source said. "For one thing, they each have an ex. So, duties are split in half. And long-distance relationships, while still hard, are possible for these two."

A second source toldPeople, "Justin is a [politician] who is used to living a secret life with his personal activity, and wouldn't put on a public display at this stag. He knows they were being watched and is smart enough to play it low-key for now."

"[The] timing seems good for them, although a romance is in very early stages," the source added.

August 20

Peoplereported that Perry and Trudeau weren't planning another date at that point, as pursuing romantic relationships was not Perry's focus. A source explained, "They had a casual first get-to-know-you date. And although they have shared interests and plenty to talk about, dating just isn't on her radar. She's stayed in touch with Justin, but there are no current plans for another meet-up."

Trump said U.S. forces on Friday "obliterated" targets on Iran's Kharg Island, which is home to the primary terminal that handles the country's oil exports. The speaker of the Iranian Parliament had warned that such strikes would provoke a new level of retaliation.

Meanwhile, an American official said 2,500 more Marines and an amphibious assault ship are being sent to the Middle Eastnearly two weeks into the war with the Islamic Republic

Iran has continued to launch widespread missile and drone attacks on Israel and neighboring Gulf states, and has effectively closed theStrait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of the world's traded oil passes, even as U.S. and Israeli warplanes pummel military and other targets across Iran.

The humanitarian crisis in Lebanon deepened, with nearly 800 people killedand 850,000 displacedas Israel launched waves of strikes against Iran-backed Hezbollah militants and warned there would be no let up.

Marines and assault ship will add to US forces

Elements from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit and the amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli have been ordered to the Middle East, according to the U.S. official, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive military plans.

Marine Expeditionary Units are able to conduct amphibious landings, but they also specialize in bolstering security at embassies, evacuating civilians, and disaster relief. The deployment does not necessarily indicate that a ground operation is imminent or will take place.

The new Marine deployment was first reported by The Wall Street Journal.

The 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, as well as the Tripoli and other amphibious assault ships carrying the Marines, are based in Japan and have been in the Pacific Ocean for several days, according to images released by the military. The Tripoli was spotted by commercial satellites sailing alone near Taiwan, putting it more than a week away from the waters off Iran.

Earlier in the week, the Navy had 12 ships, including the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and eight destroyers, operating in the Arabian Sea. Should the Tripoli join this flotilla, it would be the second-largest ship behind the Lincoln in the region.

While the total number of U.S. service members on the ground in the Middle East is not clear, Al-Udeid Air Base alone, one of the largest in the region, typically houses some 8,000 U.S. troops in Qatar.

US strikes Persian Gulf island after Iranian warning

The U.S. strikes onIran's Kharg Islandin the Persian Gulf targeted military sites but left alone its oil infrastructure for now, Trump said in a social media post.

But he warned that if Iran or anyone else interferes with the passage of ships throughthe Strait of Hormuz, he will reconsider his decision not to "wipe out the Oil Infrastructure."

On Thursday, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibafwarnedin a social media post that attacks on the islands on Iran's southern maritime frontier would cause Iran to "abandon all restraint," underscoring how central they are to the country's economy and security.

Missile stirkes inside US Embassy compound in Baghdad

A missile struck a helipad inside the U.S. Embassy compound in Baghdad, two Iraqi security officials said.

Associated Press footage showed a column of smoke rising Saturday morning over the embassy compound.

The sprawling embassy complex, one of the largest U.S. diplomatic facilities in the world, has been repeatedly targeted by rockets and drones fired by Iran-aligned militias.

There was no immediate comment from the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad. On Friday, the embassy renewed its Level 4 security alert for Iraq, warning that Iran and Iran-aligned militia groups have previously carried out attacks against U.S. citizens, interests and infrastructure, and "may continue to target them."

Explosion rocks area of mass demonstration

Earlier Friday in the Iranian capital, a large explosion rocked a central square where thousands of people gathered for an annual state-organized rally to support the Palestinians and call for Israel's demise. There were no reports of casualties.

The explosion in Tehran rocked the Ferdowsi Square area midday, where thousands had gathered for an annual Quds Day rally, chanting "death to Israel" and "death to America."

Israel had issued a warning on a Farsi-language X account for people to clear the area shortly before the blast. But few Iranians would have seen it, as authorities have almost completely shut down the internet. Footage showed people chanting "God is greatest," as smoke rose in the area.

The Israeli military later posted a second message in Farsi, noting the head of Iran's judiciary was at the rally and criticizing Iran for blocking many from seeing their warning.

The hard-liner who leads Iran's judiciary, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, was giving an interview on state television at the demonstration when the strike happened. His bodyguards encircled him, as he raised his fist and said Iran "under this rain and missiles will never withdraw."

US says 15,000 targets struck in Iran since the start of the war

Israel earlier announced another wave of strikes in Iran targeting infrastructure, and said its air force had hit more than 200 targets in the last 24 hours, including missile launchers, defense systems and weapons production sites.

In Washington, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said that over 15,000 enemy targets have been struck — more than 1,000 a day since the war began.

He also sought to address concerns about the bottling ofthe Strait of Hormuz, telling reporters: "We have been dealing with it and don't need to worry about it."

Rising reported from Bangkok. Toropin reported from Washington, and Corder reported from The Hague, Netherlands. Associated Press writers Sally Abou AlJoud, Kareem Chehayeb and Bassem Mroue in Beirut; Sam Mednick in Tel Aviv, Israel; Will Weissert at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland; and Tia Goldenberg in Washington contributed to this story.

US, Japan agree on their roles in potential nuclear power project, Westinghouse says

TOKYO, March 14 (Reuters) - The United States and Japan have agreed on the roles they will take in a potential joint nuclear ‌project involving Westinghouse and Japanese nuclear power equipment makers, Dan Lipman, ‌president of global business initiatives at Westinghouse, told Reuters on Saturday.

Reuters

Japan and the U.S. are working to include a nuclear power project in a second round of deals under Japan's $550-billion investment package that will involve Westinghouse, sources told Reuters this month.

The momentum for building nuclear power facilities is growing globally as nations look to ‌add more domestically located energy resources to hedge against supply shocks.

The U.S. and Japan governments came to the understanding on their roles in the potential deal, including on the supply chain within Japan, Lipman said on the sidelines of the Indo-Pacific Energy Security Ministerial and Business Forum in Tokyo.

"These are very strategic projects that are very critical to Westinghouse and to our Japanese partners. We're ‌going to continue to work the transactions until projects are identified and ready for deployment," he said, adding that further details are yet to be finalised.

Westinghouse, owned by Cameco and Brookfield, is looking at building pressurised water reactors and small modular reactors for investments of up to $100 billion, according to ‌a fact sheet released after U.S. President Donald Trump met with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in October.

Japanese firms such as Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Toshiba and IHI could be ‌involved in the projects, according to the sheet.

"They are critical partners for us, and they'll have an important role," Lipman said, without providing details.

Separately on Saturday, U.S. power equipment maker GE Vernova and Hitachi said in a ‌joint statement they have agreed to explore opportunities to work on projects using their BWRX-300 small modular reactors in Southeast Asia.

Another Severe Weather Outbreak With Damaging Winds, A Few Tornadoes In Midwest, South, East Sunday and Monday

Yet another severe weather outbreak is forecast in parts of the South, Midwest and East Sunday into Monday with a threat of widespread damaging winds and a few tornadoes from Texas to the East Coast.

The Weather Channel

No, this isn't the movie "Groundhog Day." For the third time this month, a rash of severe thunderstorms is in the forecast, affecting some areas that have been hit repeatedly by severe weather in one or both of the previous outbreaks fromMarch 5-8andMarch 10-12.

This latest severe outbreak will happen on the warm side of an upper Midwest blizzard, named Winter Storm Iona by The Weather Channel.

(FORECAST:Upper Midwest Blizzard This Weekend Into Monday)

Sunday

Sunday morning, at least a few severe thunderstorms could flare up on the western and northern parts of the severe area shown below.

By Sunday afternoon, severe thunderstorms will become numerous from parts of the Midwest to the South, taking the form ofa squall line, a long line of severe thunderstorms. Some embedded tornadoes and damaging winds are increasingly likely. A locally higher threat exists from Evansville, Indiana, to Memphis.

Sunday night, this squall line will then surge east across the Ohio Valley, lower Mississippi Valley and Tennessee Valley through the easternmost areas covered in severe threat in the map below.

Monday

As the cold front from the intense Great Lakes low surges east, thunderstorms with damaging winds will likely be widespread Monday across much of the East, from north Florida to the Northeast.

For now, NOAA's Storm Prediction Center has highlighted the area with the highest chance of severe weather from parts of the mid-Atlantic states to the Carolinas.

However, this damaging wind threat could extend through the Appalachians and entire Northeast from Monday morning through Monday night. It could accompany the squall line in the Northeast even if that section of the squall line is just a band of heavy rain without lightning.

Even a few tornadoes are possible Monday, either embedded in the squall line, or in any discrete rotating thunderstorms that could flare up ahead of the line.

Power outages and tree damage could be widespread in the East Monday and Monday night.

Prepare Now

- Prepare for a possible power outage, especially if it's forecast to turn coldafter the storm.

- Have multiple ways of receiving official National Weather Service watches and warnings including viasmartphoneandNOAA weather radio. Make sure alerts are enabled so you can be awakened, if sleeping.

- Know where to seek shelter when a severe thunderstorm or tornado warning is issued. If you live in a manufactured home, a community storm shelter, a nearby home or other substantial building is the safest choice.

- Move to shelter immediately when a warning is issued. Don't waste precious seconds looking out the window.

-Take severe thunderstorm warnings as seriouslyas tornado warnings. Winds over 60 mph are capable of downing trees on vehicles, homes and buildings,an underrated dangerin high wind events.

Inside Dakota Johnson's Approach to Dating: She's 'Not Rushing' Into Anything

Elle Dakota Johnson at Women In Cinema during the Red Sea International Film Festival 2025
  • Dakota Johnson is single and "playing the field" as she dates, a source close to the actress told People.

  • The insider said that Johnson isn't rushing into any new relationship and addressed dating rumors about her outings earlier this year with musician Role Model.

  • Johnson spoke to ELLE earlier this week about her buzzy new Calvin Klein campaign, addressing why the partnership felt right at this moment in her life.

Dakota Johnson is taking her time in her search for love. A source close to the actress toldPeoplethat the single star is not rushing into any new relationships afterher split from Chris Martinlast year.

The insider said she's "playing the field at the moment" and revealed that Johnson and Role Model (whose real name is Tucker Pillsbury) just had a casual connection after multiple public sightingssparked dating rumorsat the beginning of the year.

In November, a source toldthe outletthat Johnson had recently "been slowly dating again, and she's happy. Her relationship with Chris was often hot and cold, and while she always hoped they'd work out, she seems lighter and more at peace now that it's final."

The insider added that overall, she was "in a great place. She's busy, fulfilled, and she's moved on."

Johnson made headlines earlier this week for her new Calvin Klein campaign, where she posed in just bras, underwear, and jeans. She spoke toELLEabout the partnership, revealing how her idea of "hot" fashion has changed over time.

"I think the sexiest clothing items are the ones that make you feel good in your body," she said. "Feeling good in clothes changes your energy and physicality. Sometimes being in a big ratty T-shirt is the sexiest thing in the world. Sometimes being in lacy lingerie makes you feel like a garbage can. For me, it's all about the way something makes me feel."

This felt like the right time to partner with the brand, she said, as it "feels very symbiotic with where I am currently in my life. I'm at a place in my womanhood where I feel quite calm and centered. I spend a lot of time at home, I feel very comfortable in my body. Doing the denim and underwear campaign in the tone of very laid-back sensuality felt like it's just a sort of truth of where I'm at right now."
