Steichen said veteran quarterback Daniel Jones will remain the team's starter. The head coach added , there are "some things that we need to help him with... But I do feel that Daniel gives us the best chance to win right now."
Jones has had a rough start to the season, leading Indy to a 2-6 record through eight games. The quarterback has thrown for 1,542 yards with five touchdowns and nine interceptions.
For comparison, Jones played in 13 games last year before tearing his Achilles, and threw just eight interceptions. In fact, Jones' nine interceptions are already the third-most in a season in his career and the most since 2020, when he was still with the New York Giants.
Indianapolis has lost four straight games. Most recently, the Colts lost 42-7 to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.
With the deficit, the team benched Jones for backup quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. Before being replaced, Jones completed 19 of 28 passes for 144 yards, 1 touchdown, and 2 interceptions.
Richardson attempted only two passes, completing both for eight yards. He also had two carries for four yards.
Currently, Riley Leonard is the only other player in the Indianapolis quarterback room.
The Colts face the Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins, Houston Texans, and New York Giants before their Week 13 bye.
Indianapolis has been active ahead of next week's NFL trade deadline. The Colts traded Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks and defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons to the Chicago Bears.
Indy could keep moving pieces, with wide receiver Josh Downs and star running back Jonathan Taylor consistently mentioned by NFL analysts.
