A frozen fried rice recall that was announced only two weeks ago has been expanded 10-fold to include a dozen other products from numerous retailers. The recalled products are all produced by Ajinomoto Foods North America, according to therecall notice published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service. Here's everything you need to know about this massive recall, including what to do if you have some of the products.
What's Wrong With the Food?
The recalled products "may be contaminated with foreign material, specifically glass," according to the recall notice. It was initially found to be a problem with frozen chicken fried rice sold at Trader Joe's. After an investigation into the source of the glass, Ajinomoto Foods discovered it came from carrots used in the product. Those carrots were used as an ingredient in many other products, which is why the recall has now been expanded significantly.
Thankfully, there have been no reports of injury from the glass contamination so far.
Which Products Were Recalled?
Just under 37 million pounds of frozen and ready-to-eat products have been recalled in total. The products were produced between October 21, 2024, and February 26, 2026 — so it's a very large window. They were sold nationwide at retailers including Costco, Trader Joe's, and Kroger.
