A reboot of the beloved sitcom — starring Braff, Faison,Sarah Chalke,Judy Reyesand Christa Miller — was officially ordered in July 2025, nearly 15 years afterthe medical comedy wrappedits ninth season in 2010.
During a November 2025 conversation with PEOPLE, Braff and Faison teased how they think the reboot will be received by a whole new generation.
"There's a very young writers staff along with some of the brilliant original writers onScrubs, and I think this young, very diverse group of writers will help us crack that case," Braff said, while Faison added that "a lot of the story still holds up."
"You're still following your favorite doctors, your heroes to some people," Faison continued. "Regardless of what's happened from season 1 through 9, the core story is still there and people really want to see that."

What will theScrubsreboot be about?

The reboot sees John "J.D." Dorian (Braff) and Christopher Turk (Faison) back in their scrubs for the first time in years, as they discover that while medicine — and a new generation of interns — has evolved, their bromance has "stood the test of time," according to the official logline.
"Characters new and old navigate the waters of Sacred Heart with laughter, heart and some surprises along the way," the logline continues.
The first officialteaser, which was shared on Nov. 25, sees J.D. return to the Sacred Heart halls, yelling, "I'm back, baby!"
Although the new interns don't know who he is, J.D. says it's "good to be back." Braff commented on the teaser, "I missed y'all so much it hurts sometimes."

In addition to Braff returning as J.D. and Faison as Dr. Turk, Chalke will reprise her role as Dr. Elliot Reid (who was also J.D.'s love interest!).
Reyes, who portrayed head nurse — and Turk's love interest — Carla Espinosa, is also slated to return to the reboot, as isJohn C. McGinley, who played J.D.'s mentor Dr. Perry Cox.
They will again be joined by Robert Maschio andPhill Lewis, who are also slated to return in their respective roles as Dr. Todd Quinlan and Hooch.
Braff told PEOPLE that while not everyone will be in all episodes because of "scheduling," it is their "hope and goal that everyone will be back for some."
The actor also shared that he will be directing the pilot episode, while Faison is an executive producer.

While the reboot will include several familiar faces, there are also plenty of newbies heading into Sacred Heart.
The new intern class will be made up of Ana Bunn as Serena, Jacob Dudman as Asher, David Gridley as Blake, Layla Mohammadi as Amara and Amanda Morrow as Dashana.
Vanessa Bayer— best known as a formerSaturday Night Livecast member — joins the cast to portray Sibby, who "runs a wellness program for faculty and staff at Sacred Heart Hospital," perVariety.
K-Pop Demon Hunters'Joel Kim Boosterwill portray Dr. Eric Park, an attending at Sacred Heart.
